Cigna - JourneyPure At The River

Cigna works with employers and organizations around the world to help employees stay healthy and on the job. The managed care organization (MCO) works closely with brokers and consultants to develop innovative programs and lower medical costs.

Many Cigna health plans are accepted at drug rehab and addiction treatment programs, including those of JourneyPure. However, the acceptability of insurance varies according to the individual, the plan, and the particular treatment center. Your insurance plan may cover only a portion of your rehabilitation stay, so it’s important to check your plan prior to enrolling in a drug rehab or intensive outpatient program.

Sometimes, finding out if your insurance plan covers addiction treatment is not a yes or no proposition. Plans vary, with different levels of coverage and factors like the severity of the condition. This is usually measured through a physical and mental examination provided by a licensed medical professional.

Cigna Reducing Opioid Abuse

In March 2018, Cigna announced that in partnership with more than 1 million clinicians, the company had achieved a 25 percent reduction in opioid use among its customers. The broad-based effort contributes to curbing the nationwide opioid epidemic, which has taken thousands of lives, sidelined millions of workers, and diverted billions of dollars in the U.S.

The effort dates back to May 2016, when Cigna pooled resources across its medical, behavioral, and pharmacy programs to identify ways it could harness its physician-partnership model to interrupt the “cycle of addiction” while retaining clinically appropriate access to doctor-prescribed remedies.

Inpatient Addiction Treatment versus Outpatient

Depending on how serious the addiction is, the patient will need to decide whether an inpatient or outpatient treatment center is right for him or her.

Inpatient treatment features a residential area where patients live for a period of time to focus more fully on beating their addiction and any co-occurring mental health disorders. It is recommended for serious, long-term problems.

Outpatient facilities only require the patient to participate for a number of hours and allows them to leave. Outpatient treatment is suited for people with less serious, short-term addictions.
