Trauma-Informed Care

At JourneyPure At The River, we have a Trauma-Informed Care approach to treatment. This means we understand that addiction can often be rooted in some type of trauma, whether it be a specific past event or the impact of growing up in an environment of emotional neglect.

All types of trauma affect a person’s neurological system. We understand how both trauma and addiction affect our clients from a biological, psychological, neurological, and social standpoint. Not only do we realize the impact of trauma, but we also teach clients to understand their own responses to these underlying emotional wounds. We work to change and heal neural pathways that lead to reactivity as well as the craving of substances used to numb pain.

JourneyPure At The River’s main priority is to create an environment that is both physically and emotionally safe. We do this by continuously working to ensure trust and transparency with our staff, collaborating with patients so they learn to operate from a place of empowerment rather than reactivity and self-sabotage. We focus on developing relationships with clients rather than engaging in power struggles.

At JourneyPure At The River, we also cultivate a caring and compassionate setting for our patients by focusing on the emotional health and well-being of our staff. We are committed to providing our employees with ongoing growth and development opportunities which in turn fosters a healthy, functional team.

We also believe in the healing power of nature. Our residences are located in a calm, beautiful setting in the outskirts of Murfreesboro, Tennessee. We take full advantage of our 127 acres of pastoral and wooded land located on the Stones River where we do healing work. We have a team of 7 horses who are actively engaged in the treatment process (equine therapy) along with cats, kittens and pygmy goats. Returning to nature is a powerful venue to heal and recover the authentic self.
